TS3 Dermatology Services
Since April 2011, Trinity Surgery has been running a Community-based, GPSI (GP with a Specialised Interest) led dermatology service. Dr Tyler has been working in the field of dermatology (skin problems) since 1999, and regularly works in clinics in Peterborough City Hospital, alongside the consultants. Having studied for and attained the Diploma of Practical Dermatology (Cardiff University) he has striven to develop a more accessible dermatology service for the residents of Fenland (and beyond). This finally came to fruition, and started accepting referrals from March 2011.
The service runs from Trinity Surgery and is open to referrals from all GPs. Although not able to provide the same expertise as a Consultant, with his additional training, Dr Tyler is able to treat many conditions that would often need to be referred to hospital.
The advantages are numerous:
- A short waiting time (we aim to see everyone in 4 weeks)
- Easy access (the premises are accessible for all abilities)
- No parking fees
- Allowed to prescribe some medications that are usually only issued in hospital
- Aiming to treat all conditions on the first visit.
- Rapid communication with the referring GPs
Note for Patients from NHS Norfolk practices
We find ourselves in a difficult position at this moment with NHS Norfolk, who have declined to fund referrals to this service, even though NHS Cambridgeshire, NHS Lincolnshire and NHS Peterborough have all agreed. Therefore, unless case funding has been agreed prior to referral, we cannot accept referrals from these practices. We hope that this will only be a temporary barrier.
