All deaths in the UK now go through the medical examiner. The GP and the medical examiner will liase and the death certificate will be signed by both the GP and the medical examiner. The patients next of kin will be contacted by the medical examiner when the death certificate is completed.

If the patient sadly passes away in hospital it is the hospital that will arrange the death certificate.
